First Baptist Church of Fannett is a body of believers made up of people from different backgrounds and stories joined together because of the gospel of Christ. Family Friday is a blog post highlighting some of those amazing members that are willing to step out in faith to share their stories. As you get to know our members through their stories, I ask that you pray for them and the ministry they are involved with at FBCF. Pray for them as they share their faith journey with you so that YOU may get to know the heart of FBCF.

I have been searching for a church home for a long time. I found a church home in Zachary when I lived in Louisiana as a kid and I found one growing up in Edna, Texas, but I just couldn’t find the right fit when I came to the Beaumont area. I kept finding myself in Sunday school struggling to connect with the others that had been attending the church since they were young. Everyone always had their established friend groups and I could never manage to feel completely accepted as a newcomer.

The first fall Sunday Bryce(was fiancé and now husband) and I walked into FBC Fannett, we were met with the older class having tea during Sunday School. This of course wasn’t the usual setting, but the church had been flooded and gutted after Imelda. We sat in the back corner of the gym, sipped tea, ate cookies, and got to know the ladies in the group. Everyone was very welcoming and inquisitive of our lives. Bryce had just proposed in August, so that was a big topic. Bryce and I were not only looking for a place to get married, but also a place to call our church home.

After Sunday School, Scooter started the church service in the center of the gym. The sanctuary was still under construction so the gym was the next best thing. Kathy Martin asked us to sit by her before the service started. That was honestly a first for me. No one had ever reached out and asked me, a new person, to sit by them.

Wayne acted as the solo music director singing songs from the heart with his guitar. Scooter eventually started his sermon, using lots of “ums” in the first few minutes and settled into his usual rhythm of preaching a powerful message. He is truly a man after God’s own heart and I still find myself telling Bryce how Scooter found his calling as a preacher.

Bryce and I walked away confident that we had found our church home after just one Sunday spent with the small group of people who attended after Imelda.

Bryce and I are now happily married with a baby on the way and I could not think of a better place to raise our family than FBC Fannett. We have been shown an excellent example of Christ’s love through this church body. There are moments that I have been overwhelmed to tears with the love and blessings we have received in the short time we have attended. I can only hope to show the same love and kindness to others as an example of Christ’s love to us.
